Glad to hear that everything is going well back at home. Seeing Elder Bednar was a blessing. the meeting went for three hours! i didnt feel tired at all until i left the conference. the spirit was so strong through out the entire meeting. my bike is doing well. still not a fan of bikes and yes i bought a helmet and a warranty. the streets are pretty normal. random little hills every now and then. nothing to bad. sorry bout the navigator but i have no clue as to what happened. we found three new investigators this week which was definately a blessing. its hard to set up appointments to meet with investigators or members here cause they never like to not show up for the appointment. which is ok. knocking doors isnt to bad. i dont mind it to much. its just i hate standing for to long. i have been looking for something interesting to buy. so that i like my older brothers will bring home stuff interesting. but all is well and im fed well. take care

Well this area is officially the best!
I have just found a family of  9 investigators this last weekend! But only four are of the age of baptism which is fine with me. We have a great branch here who are all really supportive of missionary work. I just bought my bike for the mission. Yes you read correctly I bought a bike. Am I proud? Well let's just say I'm proud I don't have to walk as much now. In our area there is this baptist church which is really annoying because one of our investigating families gets picked up by the bus every sunday morning so they can't make it to church. this coming sunday we are going to try and beat the bus to there house so they can make it to church again. This last saturday we did a lot of service. I told my companion that service is the one attribute of Christ I would want to perfect in because Christ spent his whole life serving others. I probably won't clean someones feet but I will more than happily try and strengthen their testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the best! He did so much for us :D But yeah, its time for me to go now and maybe order some pizza for lunch!
Love You All!

hey mom,
all is well here in martinsburg. its a pretty sweet area.the flight went well and long. i did not sit with a missionary on the plane. i sat next to a dude reading les miserables. but my throat is fine. i almost ate a chip the other day then i stoppped myself just in time. i had some extremely weird soup... it had a fishes head in it, two non cooked shrimp, octopus and vegetables. you should make it for mitchell :p this area as you know is very green. i love the field and where i am serving. the people in my branch have strong testimonies and are very kind to the new missionary which is me. we just started teaching a family of seven investigastors which i think are 100% likely to get baptized. they seem very interested in the church and baptism. i am so excited that this has been my first area to serve! the spanish is a bit hard but owell i will get it eventually. my companion is so cool! he is from mexico and has a really strong testimony. well i am glad i got to see you all again during my mission. even though it was really hard on me. i probably won't have that much of a desire to sing when i get home :p i will have the desire to longboard again hahahah but this work here in martinsburg is excellent. this really is the best mission! and my mission president is a great guy and is very smart and careful with every decision. i love you and the fam. take care

Hello all you family and friends!
I am finally out in the mission field serving as much as I possibly can! Being home as a missionary was probably one of the hardest trials I have faced in my life. But I pulled through with it and I'm finally here in Martinsburg West Virginia. My companions name is Elder Perez and he is from Mexico. So yes his spanish is much better than mine. He is also the District Leader. I'm glad to have gotten him for my trainer in my first real area as a missionary! This area I'm serving in is perfect! I am so glad to have been called here for my first area. The branch is filled with strong testimonies! Even though I can't really understand all of their testimonies but I do feel the spirit during their lessons in church and when they testify of Christ and el Libro de Mormon. I never got to say thanks to all of you who have helped me while I spent some of my time home on my mission. Its a great blessing to know you in my life. We have two baptisms this weekend. Yeah... I'm pretty good i know. But the date for their baptism was set before I got there.. BUT I did teach them a lesson about the plan of salvation. We have a family of seven we just started teaching and they have alot of potential and seem very interested in the Church. The Spirit is a good guy, I love him. Well time flies and I got to go buy me some food! You all take care and love life eh?

Hello Family and Friends,
Well as you all know, I had to head on home after my time at the MTC was all done and taken care of. I found out that I was heading home for some surgery to get my tonsils and adenoids out and possibly get some tubes in my ear? I'm not exactly sure if I will like the look of me with tubes hanging out of my ears. HAHA. Well I'm sure your all wondering.. WHAT has Thee Elder Joe Clarke been up to! Well everyone, I have been going out with the missionaries everyday since I have been home. I have also been attending the temples as much as possible, reading my Book of Mormon, also reading my Book of Mormon in Spanish, practicing my Spanish with activities I have learned in the MTC and sharing my experiences I have had so far since I have left for my mission. It's been difficult for me to be home, but I'm sure there will be many blessings in my life that will come from it. You all take care. Well.. get taken care of before you leave for your mission!

Hello Everyone,
This is your favorite person here, you know Thee Elder Clarke? Well I hope you haven't forgot me because I will making a stop at me casa in a couple of days to experience the removal of my tonsils being gone from existence in my mouth.

Anyway, Jeffrey R. Holland spoke again on Tuesday.. Oh My Gosh! All he brought up to the podium was his scriptures. I knew from that second that he would definitely be teaching through the spirit the entire time to what our needs are as a missionary. I took notes the entire time and didn't even noticed my legs getting numb. Well I did after the devotional ended.. But that's not the point! Jeffrey R. Holland said a lot of good stuff that night such as we know you work hard, but we don't care! I was like oh shoot! I'm going to be working so hard when I'm out in the mission field! I will even do my best when I am home laying on the couch.

This has been a good last week for me in the MTC. Something cool about here at the MTC is that they have Pizza Day. Yea you read that correctly.. There is a Pizza Day on Friday, which we all know as the best day of the week, besides Sunday of course :) But my last Friday here.. They didn't do pizza :/ they did a pick up stix bowl which isn't nearly as good. But the spirit throughout Friday was really good!

I have a lot to say to all me familia y amigos when I am home. Much advice and stories! Well Thee Elder Clarke needs to finish up his laundry. You all have a wonderful day and remember... To Smile, Pass it On :)

Hello Everyone,
This day, of all days, I tell you of an experience I had. I know that the Book of Mormon answers your questions. For it has answered one of mine. I had this weird pointless question in mind and I was reading in Mosiah chapter 2 where it talks a lot about wisdom. Like while reading the 36th verse, my question was instantly answered! It was so crazy!!!! I was like oh man everyone guess what! My question was just answered right now in Mosiah! They all started laughing.. But now when I am talking to an investigator about personal revelation through scripture study, I have a stronger testimony about it. I thought it was an awesome experience!

My Spanish continues to grow tremendously! I try to write in my journal every night, doesn't happen sometimes but I continue to press forward. I know that we're all here for a reason everyone. My reason in life right now is to study diligently so that my future investigators in Baltimore will be WOWED by what I have to say. I know this work I'm doing is true! I do not regret my choice to serve one bit.

You all should take care of yourselves and bare your testimony to a person that's having a bad day. Love you all. Smile, Pass it on.

Hello Family and Friends,
I return once again! But when I say once again I mean writing on my Volvo "Thee Elder Joe Clarke Still Lives" when I saw it in the temple parking lot! It was pretty crazy seeing it parked there. I was like, that's my car!!! That's not the whole story you see. I was on my way to the pharmacy and I was waiting to cross the street and I see my car turning down the street to the temple. I yelled and yelled but Donnie didn't notice I guess. But that is okay because I went to the temple and found my car parked there. So many good memories in that thing.

But this week has been really spiritual and busy. I have been going to the doctors a lot lately because of the bad cough I have had forever! But they seem to be doing whatever they can to find the problem. One of the doctors wants to remove my tonsils because they are enlarged and he says if they are removed, my sleep will get much better. (UPDATE: Joe will fly home 3/6/12, instead of to Baltimore, to have his tonsils removed, then he'll fly to Baltimore about a week later).

The spiritual stuff is awesome of course! You should all read Mosiah 7:33. I came across it during personal study time. I don't have that much soda anymore believe it or not. I say its much healthier than my old soda habits I had before the mission. My district is now the oldest district in the zone I'm in. So were basically now the BOSS. My companion got called to be the District leader yesterday. All is well and I will be going to the temple today which I'm always stoked about to do on my Preparation Day.

Well you all take care of yourselves and don't follow the brown bunny that will lead you down the wrong path of unrighteousness.

Love you all!

Hello everyone,
Remember to always Stand Proud, Tall and Straight! Jeffrey R. Holland spoke to us on Tuesday as well as Russell M. Nelson. Jeffrey R. Holland said that quote during his talk and it really stuck out to me! Because as you all you know I was just used to getting in a tuck on my longboard. But know this that I will always Stand Proud, Tall and Straight while doing the Lords work! Especially now because of my serving a mission. This decision I have made to serve the Lord has been much better then choosing to go down this big hill, hahah. The gift of tongues is the real deal! I have been able to talk to people in discussions about prayer (oracion), Personal Revelation through the Book of Mormon (revelacion personal mediante el libro de mormon) and about faith in Jesus Christ (La fe en Jesucristo). This mission has already been a huge blessing en mi vida. Me agradecido por mi familia! My family is awesome for the support they have shown me. I'm so grateful for the Lord's blessings in my life! The blessings continue to get better and better the more work I perform on here in the MTC. Everyone be excited because I have sent my mom my camera memory card with some good pictures in there. Be prepared like a scout you know? Scouts are bueno! Here at the MTC we always show each other our eagle scout cards. I do not know why. hahah But some guys in my districts have a cool temple recommend plastic thing for the temple they got their endowments in. I was pretty jealous about it. I am doing sealings today in the temple. I'm pretty excited! I did it last week and had a blast doing it!!!! :) Well you all stay classy and choose the right. Know that I love You all, and of course my decision to go on a mission!
Love,
Thee Elder Clarke

Yo Family and Friends!

This is Elder Clarke here with some good stuff to say. So this week has been awesome! I taught a progressing investigator all in Spanish and it's been my best lesson yet! The lesson was on prayer, the spirit there during the discussion was so strong! I'm sure it strengthened his testimony on prayer cause I know it strengthened mine. I have never said so many prayers in my life. I know that Heavenly Father answers all our prayers and I know that for myself. I know he sent me to the area I'm suposed to serve. My Spanish continues to come to me rather easily, which I find to be a good thing ya know? The MTC has such a tight schedule but I know it's to get me ready for the field waiting for me over in Baltimore. My district is pretty much the best one at the MTC right now. We all get along really well and we all push each other to get this spanish language down and to have our testimonies grow. I'm thankful for this awesome opportunity to go on a mission. It's a much better feeling than finding out about a new big hill that looks perfect to ride. This ride I'm on right now will not only bless me for a quick five minutes of adrenaline, but it will bless me and many others in this life and hopefully after life. I'm thankful for all of you in my life. Stay Classy.

January 20, 2012  I have been learning Spanish like no other. I have also learned about the restoration a lot more than I did before the mission and for that, I'm grateful for making the decision of serving a mission. One thing I really miss from the outside world is fast food. The food here is alright, but its the same thing every week. I

The time here at the MTC has made my testimony grow like no other! ITS LIKE... as a big as a Moose in Canada. That's when you know my life here is going good. I saw a devotional with Spencer from Elder Duncan in the 1st chorum of the seventy. It was all about missionary work. It was legit! I try to sit next to him every devotional and fireside we have. We have taken some good looking pictures together. The temple here is pretty cool. But the Newport one... Can words even describe it? Don't think so. I will be going to the Temple later on today! I will get some pics to you guys eventually. You all take care and love life!

Not too happy about their accommodations?

Looking heavenward:)

Sounds like life is still going how I left it back there in Glendora. I don't have to much time to write back because my email had problems today as well as everyone else in my district. But I will tell you that I am having a great time and that I sleep talk in Spanish now. My companion said that I am a one of a kind elder because I have been really loud.

I want Jason to send me some Subway in the mail. I really want Subway. Mark and Gina sent me a package of cookies! It was awesome and delicious!

But I've got to go help some elders. I love you!
